Why unbleached cotton is better for your health and the Environment?

Bleached cotton treated with chorine and dyes, a highly toxin substance known as 'Dioxins'. Dioxins are among the most toxic man-made chemicals and most harmful to the environment, as shown in laboratory testing on animals. Acutely lethal doses are measured in micro-grams per kilogram animal weight, per billion ranges.

The long-term health effects from exposure to dioxins are significant. Daily does of 1,000 times below the lethal dose, per trillion parts, is profoundly harmful to animals (increased risk of cancer, a weaker immune system, and reproductive failure).

Most importantly, dioxins cannot be easily destroyed by simple separation, and proper disposal of dioxin is extremely costly. Under certain conditions, particularly when exposed to the intensive sunlight, dioxins can be broken down. However, dioxins cannot be broken down once absorbed by soil or dust or animal tissues. Using organic color dyed cotton or unbleached cotton is the best way to prevent the production and emission of these toxin dioxins.

How unbleached-undyed cotton reduces formaldehyde?

Formaldehyde resin is used as a finish to keep fabrics wrinkle-free. Normally, iron-free bed linens, polyester, cotton blend fabrics, and permanent press clothing are treated with formaldehyde resin. Some 100% of cotton textiles labeled 'easy-care' or 'no-iron' are usually treated with this finish.

Formaldehyde is applied so that it is part of the fabric, and the treated material continuously gives off formaldehyde gas. Although washing permanent press items can help reduce the amount of gas emitted, the fabric continues to give off vapors indefinitely. Contact with formaldehyde can result in insomnia, tiredness, headaches, and respiratory irritations.

Using unbleached-undyed-formaldehyde treated cotton will help prevent the contamination of formaldehyde in the environment. By choosing unbleached undyed cotton, you can help conserve the environment by cutting water and air pollutant emissions. Furthermore, you can save up to 40,000 litres of water from 140 kilowatts of electricity.

How undyed material is good for you and the environment?

There are many different types of dyes, either synthetic or natural. For most part, synthetic dyes are derived from petroleum products, specifically coal tar, a waste product from coal distillation.

Natural Dyeing

The fiber from cotton is white, turbid white, or light brown depending on the type of cotton used so before weaving cotton must be dyed. In the past, dyes were from natural materials existing in local areas, for example, from bark, roots, flowers, fruit, and even from some animals. The use of natural dyes became less common due to the fact that natural extraction is quite complicated, raw materials are scarce, and there are less varieties and poorer quality of colors and dyes available. Synthetic dyes are seen as easier to use and able to produce more color varieties.

Not all naturally dyes cotton are good, some natural dyes adhere to fabric with the help of highly toxic or heavy metal-based chemicals. These can also generate highly toxic substances into the environment and can be as damaging as synthetic dyes. With our traditional method, we use only naturally available materials and use environmental friendly substance for natural dyeing. As such our variety of colour will be limited and it will not as shape like those used chemical in dyeing.

Essential Oils

Thailand has an abundance of natural herbs, exotic fruits, vegetables, and plants that can be used to produce essential oils and fragrances for a wide range of natural aroma products. Among the favourite Thai essential oils are Plai, Turmeric, Kaffirlime, Ginger, Lemon Grass, Citronella Grass, Tangerine Orange Peel, Pomelo, and Champaka. From these exotic oils we craft natural soap, bath and foot salts, and bath bombs, coupled with home décor and environmental fragrances such as incense and candles. These herbs are mostly used in Thailand in food, incense, candles, and other personal care products.

Basil Aroma: Very clear, sweet and slightly spicy

Benefits: A good tonic for the nerves especially when one is feeling fragile, basil sharpens the senses and improves concentration. It also refreshes the skin and helps to promote good complexion and control acne.

Citronella Aroma: Sweet and lemony

Handcrafted Soap is a cleanser made with simple ingredients that are good for your skin. In the traditional handcrafted soap making process, oils and fat are combined with lye to produce soap and glycerin. Soap cleanses your skin whereas glycerin moisturizes it.

How handcrafted Soap made?

Using oils that are good for your skin such as coconut oil, sesame oil, palm oil kernel, olive oil, rice bran oil, sunflower oil, we use basic traditional method to produce a 'true' soap. Combining oil with lye (sodium hydroxide) produces soap and glycerin. Soap helps cleanse your skin while glycerin acts as a moisturizer. What is Glycerin Soap and how to take care of Glycerin soap?

Glycerin is a naturally produced during the handcrafted making process. Glycerin costs more than that soap and that is why some soap companies remove glycerin from the soap and sell it to lotion, toothpaste, or other cosmetic manufacturers. Handcrafted soap contains all of the naturally occurring glycerin.

Glycerin soap contains a high content of glycerin and retains more moisture than other soaps. It will absorb moisture from the surroundings, thus it is best to place it in a well-drained soap dish. Keep unused bars in a cool and dry place and use them within a few months of purchase, as they do not contain any preservatives.

Is there lye in handcrafted soap?

No. Although lye is used to make handcrafted soap, after saponification with oil, the chemical reaction between all of the ingredients used in the soap making process causes the lye to be literally 'reacted away', leaving behind a mild and effective bar of pure handcrafted soap.

Handmade Paper

Created from the by-products of pineapple fibre and banana stem, our handcrafted fruit paper is stylish, sturdy, and durable with a delightfully classic look. Ideal for creating specialty wraps, boxes, cards, flower crafts, picture frames, and bags, fruit paper is growing in popularity around the world. So to is bark paper, which is handcrafted from the bark of the Genus Flacourtier tree, which grows naturally in Thai forest environments. After being peeled off the second pellicle layer of skin of the tree trunk (in such as way as to preserve the inner layers and ensure future regeneration) the brown bark is treated naturally by local craftspeople and made into a richly textured and water absorbent organic paper.
